Four new saponins called kochianosides I, II, III, and IV were isolate
d from the glycosidic fraction of the fruit of Chinese Kochia scoparia
, which has exhibited an antipruritogenic effect, together with eight
known saponins. The structures of kochianosides I, II, III, and IV wer
e characterized on the basis of physicochemical evidence as 22 alpha-h
ydroxyoleanolic acid 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosiduronic acid, morolic aci
d -xylopyranosyl(1-->3)]-beta-D-glucopyranosiduronic acid, 3 beta,12 a
lpha-dihydroxyolean-28,13 alpha-olide D-xylopyranosyl(1-->3)-beta-D-gl
ucopyranosiduronic acid, and betulinic acid D-xylopyranosyl(1-->3)-bet
a-D-glucopyranosiduronic acid, respectively.
