From the aerial parts of Scutellaria grossa, a new neoclerodane diterp
ene named scutegrossin A has been isolated together with five known ne
oclerodane diterpenes, jodrellin B, scutecolumnin A, scutalsin, scutec
yprol B and scutalbin B.The structure of a new compound has been deter
mined by spectroscopic and chemical methods as (11S,13S,16S,19R)-6 alp
ha-O-acetyl-19-O-[(E)-2-methyl-2-butenoyl]-2 alpha,19;4 ;11,16;15,16-t
etraepoxy-14-neoclerodene-6,19-diol. In addition, the absolute stereoc
hemistry of 2-methylbutanoyl group of scutecolumnin A and scutalbin B
has been ascertained to be the S form.
