SPAWNING SEASON AND AREA OF THE OCEANIC T YPE CHILEAN JACK MACKEREL IN THE SOUTHEASTERN PACIFIC

The spawning season and area of Chilean jack mackerel, Trachurus murph yi, outside of 100-mile zone of the Chile (south of 30 degrees S) were estimated using the materials collected by mid-water trawl surveys co nducted by the Japan Marine Fishery Resources Research Center during t he period from 1983 to 1989, The results obtained are as follows: (1) The spawning season was estimated to be in austral summer (January-Mar ch). (2) The spawning took place over the oceanic waters off Chile, (3 ) Maturation size of the lack mackerel nas estimated to be 24 cm in ma le and 26 cm in female in fork length.
