Development of any area should be through a balanced utilisation of availab
le local natural resources. While emphasising this, the article attempts to
trace the ever-increasing water crisis due to the prevailing water utilisa
tion and cropping patterns, by using an example from the Tuljapur Taluka of
Maharashtra, a drought prone block in a semi arid tropical region in India
. After examining the issues at Various levels, a strategy for eradication
of drought is put forth by the authors.
