We report on the synthesis, characterization and ionic complexation propert
ies of hexakis (2-O-acetyl-3,6-anhydro) cyclomaltohexaose and hexakis (2-O-
methyl-3,6-anhydro) cyclomaltohexaose using thin-layer chromatography and N
uclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy. The selectivity towards cations dep
ends on chemical modification of the hydroxyl groups and a very high specif
icity can be obtained in the case of lead for methylated derivatives.
