Pb-2(FeMo)O-6 has been received under high pressure (P = 5 GPa, T = 800 deg
rees C). According to X-ray data this compound is pseudocubic perovskite wi
th a = 7.796 Angstrom. Magnetization study reveals a weak spontaneous magne
tic moment around 0.35 mu(B) per formula unit. Spontaneous magnetization di
sappears at T-N = 280K. As compared to Sr-2(FeMo)O-6 metallic ferromagnet t
he plumbum-based compound shows semiconductive behavior without appreciable
magnetoresistance. Et is suggested that magnetization behavior is strongly
affected by the disordering of Fe3+ and Mo5+ ions in the B-sites of perovs
kite lattice ABO, as well as reduction of negative Fe3+-O-Mo5+ exchange int
eraction in comparison with Sr-2(FeMo)O-6. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. A
