The influence has been studied of local chemical disorder on the magnetic p
roperties of Pd2-xNixTiSn Heusler-type alloys by spin-polarised tight-bindi
ng linearized muffin tin orbital (TB LMTO) method within the atomic sphere
approximation, The self-consistent LMTO calculations suggested that the mag
netic moment in Pd2-xNixTiSn alloys exist only for disordered systems for w
hich palladium atoms are located on titanium positions. The value of the ma
gnetic moment on the titanium atom depends strongly on the local environmen
t and our calculations indicated that it changes as a function of disorder
