Keeping watch on the waterfront: Social responsibility in legal and library professional organizations

At the 1997 Annual Meeting of the American Association of Law Libraries, th e Social Responsibilities Special Interest Section sponsored a program titl ed "Keeping Watch on the Waterfront: A History of Social Responsibility in Legal and Library Professional Organizations." In this article, Ms. Campbel l frames the issues surrounding social and political activism by profession al organizations. Her introduction is followed by edited remarks from the p rogram 's speakers, leaders of the American Bar Association, American Libra ry Association, and American Association of Law Libraries.
