Synthesis and mesomorphic properties of [4-((4-n-alkoxy-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorophenyl)ethynyl)phenyl] fluoro-substituted benzoates

Five series of liquid crystals incorporating a 2,3,5,6-tetrafluorophenylene moiety and a terminal fluorosubstituted phenyl group have been prepared. T he mesomorphic properties have been studied by polarizing microscopic textu ral observation and DSC measurements. The effect of terminal fluorosubstitu ent on mesomorphic behaviour has been discussed.
