The effect of cestode parasitism on the respiration rate (Mo-2) Of differen
t strains of Artemia from wild populations of Spain was studied. Respiratio
n rates (Mo-2) Of adults from each strain were not affected by the presence
of cysticercoids of Flamingolepis liguloides or Hymenolepis stellorae (Ces
tode, Hymenolepididae). This finding could be related to the absence of rep
roductive activity (parasite castration) in parasitized females.
