We have used torque magnetometry to investigate the influence of magnetic s
pacer layers on the superconductivity in Nb/Co multilayers. Compared to sim
ilar systems which have nonmagnetic spacer layers, the samples exhibit two
dimensional superconductivity for relatively thin magnetic layer thicknesse
s d(Co), reflecting the effects of magnetic pair breaking. Moreover, the tr
ansition temperature to the superconducting state T-c shows a nonmonatonic
dependence on d(Co), which we examine within the framework of recent theori
es.
