Photoelectron energy resolved spectra recorded in coincidence with singly a
nd doubly ionized atoms are reported for the interaction of xenon with 60 f
s laser pulses at 800 nm and 1 x 10(14) W/cm(2). Double ionization contribu
tions in the spectrum have been established. The appearance of a single ion
ization plateau in above threshold ionization is verified. A hotter electro
n distribution is found for the double ionization.
