Abstract
Weight gain at menopause increases the risk of high blood pressure, high bl ood lipid levels, and insulin resistance. Some studies have suggested that increased weight: is linked with hormonal changes and might be considered " normal." Does this mean women face inexorable weight gain at menopause, or are there ways to overcome this problem? In this article, the authors revie w long-term studies related to changes that occur at menopause and define t he factors that can be altered to avoid weight gain and the many problems a ssociated with it.
