Molecular imprinting is a powerful technique that has been getting attentio
n lately because of the prospect of creating synthetic polymers with highly
specific recognition capabilities. In this review, we have outlined the pr
ocess by which these polymer are prepared, what is known of the molecular m
echanism of the process, and the fields in which the technique might find a
pplication. We have included representative examples of applications used u
p to date and pointed out some potential applications as well as the trends
in recent research.
