Abstract
UV photolysis of protected glycines in the presence of di-tert-butyl peroxi de, benzophenone and substituted toluenes is shown to lead to selective alk ylation at the a-position. Phenylalanines are isolated in yields of general ly > 50% (based on recovered starting material). (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
