Abstract
Conventional open ventral hernia repair is commonly met with complications. Recurrence rates greater than 50 percent have been reported in the literat ure.(4,5,11) The use of prosthetic mesh with open hernia repair has decreas ed the incidence of recurrence but has lead to an increased rate of wound i nfections and complications.(6,7,8,9) We have now repaired 100 ventral abdominal hernias laparoscopically. In our series, we have had only two recurrences and four wound complications. We feel that this repair is superior when compared to the current open approac hes.
