J. Szabadics et L. Erdelyi, Pre- and postsynaptic effects of eugenol and related compounds on Helix pomatia L. neurons, ACT BIOL HU, 51(2-4), 2000, pp. 265-273
We showed how eugenol blocks the synaptic transmission and gave a possible
interpretation how it inhibits the excitation-contraction coupling that sev
eral authors described previously [3, 9]. Eugenol acts both in the pre- and
postsynaptic side of the neurons. It blocks the Ca2+-currents, decreases t
he membrane potential of the neurons, increases the inward resistance and d
ecreases the GABA, ACh and glutamate evoked excitatory responses in submill
imolar concentration.
