Computer-aided cooling curve analysis has been applied to a cobalt-based al
loy, (widely used in the production of surgical implants) resulting in bett
er understanding of the solidification process, Transformation temperatures
and latent heat of solidification have been evaluated. Further kinetics st
udy of solidification has been made yielding information on the evolution o
f solid fraction during solidification process. Segregation patterns were o
btained by means of metallographic and microanalysis techniques.
