We document the presence of the largest known concentration of Yellow Rails
(Coturnicops noveboracencis) east of Quebec, in the Grand Lake Meadows of
central New Brunswick. Rails were surveyed between 1991-1997 and indicated
the area supported a minimum of 2-24. Fluctuating water levels appear to de
termine abundance and suggest that breeding is unlikely, at least in most y
ears. The Grand Lake Meadows may be a significant post-breeding staging are
a for this species.
