Allylpalladium(II) compounds react readily in benzene with free phenyl and
trityl radicals, generated from the thermal decomposition of phenylazotriph
enylmethane, and with free cyclohexyl radicals, generated from the photolys
is of (cyclohexyl)(pyridine)cobaloxime; the reactions appear to involve ini
tial attack of the radicals at palladium, followed by secondary processes w
hich convert the coordinated allyl ligands preferentially to terminal rathe
r than internal alkenes.
