Identification and control of an industrial binary distillation column: A case study

The challenging problem of identification and control of an industrial bina ry distillation column is addressed in this paper. Process identification r epresents an alternative to modeling and is shown to be the appropriate pro cedure for predictive control design. The predictive controllers based on t he identified model ensure stability and high performance for a wide operat ing range of the industrial distillation column.
