Abstract
The age of the footprints in the Cathala storey of the Grotte d'Aldene has up to now been a matter of controversy. Two research campaigns have been he ld to ascertain the subterranean itinerary used by humans and the successiv e passages of beasts and humans in the galleries. The single human passage can be dated as Mesolithic (8 200 +/- 130 BP, 7 790 +/- 60 BP) on the basis of burnt pieces of brand left on the ground and sooty marks on the walls.
