Abstract
Vibration causes noise, environmental pollution, human fatigue and injury. In addition, it results in structural fatigue, lowering the strength and sa fety of the structure, and reducing the accuracy and reliability of the equ ipment in the system. In order to ensure the safety of the structure and to increase the reliability and durability of the equipment, pole assignment method, optimal control method and independent model-space control method h ave usually been used. Yet, all of them must engage a long process of theor etical analysis or sophisticated calculation to achieve a suitable control force for the structure to suppress vibration. Since traditional control me thods have their shortcomings and limitations, this paper attempts applying fuzzy theory to structural active control so as to verify its feasibility. The results obtained in the study reveal that the negative effects of vibr ation to the structure can be successfully suppressed. (C) 2000 Elsevier Sc ience S.A. All rights reserved.
