In this paper, a three-dimensional inverse design method using mean swirl s
pecification is applied to the design of centrifugal blood pump impeller bl
ades. CFD investigation of the passage flows is carried out to analyze the
flow field and pressure generated across the blade. The results show that t
he possibility of blood cells' damage may not be increased when the pressur
e developed is increased. This technique can provide designers valuable ins
ight on the development of efficient blood pump with reduced risk of blood
traumatization.
