Electromagnetic wave transmission through free standing meshes of hemp and
polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibre blends was studied. The transmission coeffici
ent was found to decrease, both with the rise in hemp content and humidity
of the blends. The increase in frequency in the measured range of 15-300 GH
z enhances wave attenuation as well, Attenuation is higher for the electric
field orientation of the electromagnetic wave parallel to the fibres, as c
ompared to the perpendicular orientation. Hemprich fibre materials are thus
confirmed to protect against electromagnetic radiation.
