Abstract
This section begins with an overview of the United States food labeling req uirements directly relevant to the labeling of recombinant DNA biotechnolog y-derived foods, including constitutional limitations on the government's a uthority to regulate food labeling and specific case studies relevant to la beling rDNA biotechnology-derived foods. Next, the report discusses labelin g policies for rDNA biotechnology-derived foods in the U.S. and internation ally and the impact of labeling distinctions on food product distribution s ystems. Finally, consumer perceptions of various label statements are discu ssed.
