Ancient river valleys of two generations have been discovered on the wester
n shore of Lake Baikal between the Bugul'deika and Anga Rivers. They are at
tributed to the Neogene planation surface within the limits of the marginal
fault step of the Baikal Rift. A valley of the first generation had its so
urce on the western slope of the Primorsky Ridge, and its waterway was dire
cted toward Baikal. The system of valleys of the second generation is Fille
d with thick Middle Pleistocene Manzurka alluvium. The upper courses of one
of the rivers and its tributaries face Baikal and are truncated by a fault
scarp, which Is evident of considerable broadening of the lake at the acco
unt of neotectonic subsidence of crustal blacks within the marginal fault s
tep.
