Abstract
SINCE ABOUT 80,000 PEDESTRIAN INJURIES OCCUR ANNUALLY IN THE UNITED STATES, PRIMARY COUNTERMEASURE RECOMMENDATIONS ARE TO INCREASE THE SEPARATION BETW EEN MOTOR VEHICLES AND PEDESTRIANS AND TO IMPROVE THE VISIBILITY OF PEDESTR IANS. ONE POSSIBLE TECHNIQUE IS TO MOVIE STOP LINTS FARTHER BACK FROM CROSS WALKS.
