A neutron diffraction investigation of the intermetallic compound HoCr2Si2
has been carried out over the temperature range 1.7-470 K. The data clearly
demonstrate that the Cr sublattice in this compound is ordered for the who
le range of temperatures investigated. Chromium atoms at 4d sites are align
ed anti-parallel along the c axis. The refined value of the ordered Cr mome
nt is 1.48(4) mu(B), at 293 K and 1.60(4) mu(B) at 25 K The magnetic space
group is 14'/m 'm 'm, with G(z)(-) Mn magnetic modes at 4d sites. The Ho an
d Cr sublattices order independently, with Ho moments at 2a sites ordering
