Abstract
We report on the hypersensitivity of the P-3(0) --> F-3(2) emission transit ion (630-650 nm) of Pr3+ in a series of fluoride, germanium sulfide and in some tellurium oxide and silica-based oxide and oxy-fluoride glasses. The r elative intensity of this transition was dependent on the type of the glass host. We suggest the mechanisms for the hypersensitivity in relationship t o the glass host polarizability and structure. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B. V. All rights reserved.
