Persons with hearing loss can obtain great benefit from hearing aids but th
ere are many situations that traditional amplification devices will provide
insufficient help to ensure optimal communication. Assistive listening tec
hnology has been developed to aid persons with hearing loss in many of thes
e difficult communication environments such as listening in noise or from a
distance. This article reviews assistive listening technologies and recomm
ends ways rehabilitation counselors may interface with audiologists to prov
ide appropriate devices to their clients.
