Three different thermometer scales which were defined in the 18th century a
re still known today: the ones of Fahrenheit, Reaumur and Celsius. But it t
urns out that Reaumur's scale as it is known today was not created by Reaum
ur but by Jean Andre Deluc. This note tries to explain why Deluc's name is
forgotten today, and why Deluc's scale has become known as Reaumur's scale.
