Epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma of the nasopharynx

We present a patient with a rare epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma of the nasopharynx with a typical biphasic histopathologic pattern. Immunohistoche mical findings support the concept that the inner cells differentiate to du ctal epithelium and the outer cells to myoepithelium. In this patient compl ete excision of the tumor and reconstruction with a pedicled sternocleidoma stoid myocutaneous flap were performed. A DNA diploid pattern from flow cyt ometric study indicates a favorable prognosis. There was no recurrence nor metastasis for 55 months. Copyright (C) 2000 S. Karger AG, Basel.
