The propagation of linear and nonlinear surface acoustic waves in a dusty p
lasma sheet is considered. Spatial restrictions of a dusty plasma lead to a
n increase in the dispersion in the long wavelength limit, to substantial m
odifications of the longitudinal modulational instability, and to the possi
ble formation of nonlinear Schrodinger type solitons. (C) 2000 American Ins
