Abstract
Degradation of acetophenone in dilute aqueous solution has been studied usi ng pulsed corona discharges in water. Higher conversions of acetophenone we re obtained with the addition oxygen or ozone than with the addition of nit rogen and without the addition of any gas. Intermediates of acetophenone de gradation, as determined by gas chromatography-mass spectroscopies (GC-MS), were phenethyl alcohol, toluene, and 2-acetylphenol. In addition, the degr adation reaction pathways of acetophenone in water are discussed.
