F. Fronterotta, The neo-Kantian interpretation of the Platonic theory of ideas and its philosophical "inheritance", REV PHILOS, 98(2), 2000, pp. 318-340
This article puts forward a schematic reconstruction of the neo-Kantian int
erpretation of Plato, proposed in the context of the School of Marburg betw
een the second half of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century. The
basic tenets of this original interpretation of Plato's thought were drawn
up by Hermann Cohen and Paul Natorp, who attempted to understand Plato's t
heory of Ideas according to Kant's doctrine, emphasizing above all the epis
temological significance and implications of the relationship between Plato
and Kant. In addition, reference to the neo-Kantian School of Marburg make
s it possible to characterize many important interpretations of Plato in th
e 20th century, especially in the Anglo-Saxon world.
