Phosphorus grain boundary segregation in three polycrystalline Cr-Mo-V low-
alloy steels was investigated using Anger electron spectroscopy and thermod
ynamic calculations. Obtained data on polycrystals fit very well with the r
ecently reported linear relationship between enthalpy and entropy of phosph
orus segregation at individual grain boundaries of alpha-iron found in bicr
ystals of an Fe-Si alloy. Different crystallography seems to be responsible
for the scatter of the values of segregation enthalpy for individual low-a
lloy steels. Copyright (C) 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
