Abstract
An efficient synthesis of phenacyl thiocyanates and phenacyl azides is desc ribed here. Styrenes react with ammonium thiocyanate and sodium azide in th e presence of cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate under an oxygen atmosphere to aff ord phenacyl thiocyanates and phenacyl azides respectively in good yields.
