Abstract
A new three-dimensional open-framework germanate, namely ethylenediamine bi s(ethylenediammonium) tetrahydroxooctadecaoxononagermanate, (C2H8N2)(C2H10N 2)(2)[Ge9O18(OH)(4)], has been synthesized hydrothermally and its structure determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The framework is built of [Ge9O22(OH)(4)] units formed by four-, five- and six-oxygen-coordinated ger manium and templated by ethylenediamine. Three types of intersecting channe ls are formed in the framework, one by eight-membered rings running along t he b axis and the other two by ten-membered rings running parallel to the a and c axes, respectively.
