Abstract
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia was the first syngeneic systemic malignan cy to be cured by chemotherapy (1962). The personal description of the key players and the major innovations are presented by one of those p articipating in this achievement. The principles developed over the su bsequent 30 years have found wide application to the therapy of other systemic malignancies.
