M. Spreidler et al., The effect of market and political variables on the optimal final weight in fattening bulls, BER LANDWIR, 78(3), 2000, pp. 373-401
On the basis of sample calculations there is printed how changing agricultu
ral or free market basic conditions affect the final weight obtain in fatte
ning bulls. The optimal final weight is achieved if the cross margin become
s maximum. Optimise the final weight, the changing performance-cost-relatio
n within the fattening period and the unit to which the result is set into
relation, have to be considered. Regard to the small and to the medium size
d bull fattener, usually preferring the pay ment for arable corps in combin
ation with the small producer regulation, a decrease of the bull price lead
s to a decrease of the final weight concerning the criteria "bull" and conc
erning to the criteria "stable" to an increase, respectively.
Dropping calves prices do not have an influence on final weight concerning
the criteria "bull". Concerning the criteria "stable", however, they lead t
o decrease, respectively. The direct payments for the arable crops, used fo
r rearing the bulls, as well as the forage-area-bound animal premium lead t
o an increase of the final weight. The forage-area-independent bull premium
, however, acts as a reduction of the calf price does not behave.
Under the conditions of the example discussed here the modifications announ
ced by the agenda 2000 do not have any significant influence to the optimum
final weight.
