P. Keogh et al., LOSS OF FLEXOR POLLICIS LONGUS FUNCTION AFTER PLATING OF THE RADIUS -REPORT OF 6 CASES, Journal of hand surgery. British volume, 22B(3), 1997, pp. 375-376
Six cases of loss of flexor pollicis longus function after plating of
a radius fracture are presented, The exact aetiology of the postoperat
ive deficit is uncertain, but is probably a traction neuropraxia of th
e anterior interosseous nerve branches to the flexor pollicis longus.
All six patients had full recovery within 5 months. An initial conserv
ative approach is recommended if this complication is encountered.
