Abstract
A reason for the under-recognition of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESB L)-mediated resistance has been the lack of a convenient and sensitive meth od for recognising ESBL-producing strains. This paper reviews the relative merits and demerits of various methods used. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Inc. All rights reserved.
