Abstract
In Part 1 of this research series, it was shown that monitoring spindle vib ration with an accelerometer mounted on the spindle of a CNC router could b e used to monitor tool wear. In Part 2, the accelerometer was again mounted on the spindle and used to monitor tool wear. In addition, tool wear was c orrelated to surface quality of the workpiece, which was a melamine-coated particleboard. The cutting parameters were altered to improve the surface q uality while monitoring spindle vibration to show that process control of t he process is possible.
