G. Di Donato et al., The influence of a ductile crustal zone on glacial isostatic adjustment: Geodetic observables along the US east coast, GEOPHYS R L, 27(18), 2000, pp. 3017-3020
We consider the influence of a 15 km thick ductile crustal layer of viscosi
ty 10(18) Pa s embedded in an elastic 80 km lithosphere on predictions of o
ngoing glacial isostatic adjustment (henceforth 'GIA') along the U.S. east
coast. Crustal velocities are perturbed by 0.5 mm/yr, or more, by the inclu
sion of the ductile layer. Furthermore, perturbations in predictions of sea
-level rates along the U.S. east coast due to the ductile layer have a geog
raphic pattern that is similar to residual trends evident in previous GIA c
orrections of tide gauge records along this coast.
