Abstract
Crossbred cows (16)were divided into PGF(2)alpha and SMB groups. The supero estrus was induced with PGF(2)alpha in PGF(2)alpha group and syncro-mate-B in SMB group. The superovulation was induced with folltropin. The embryos w ere collected nonsurgically. The number of ovulations, embryo recovery and transferable embryos were significantly (P<0.01) higher in PGF(2)alpha grou p, whereas, the number of nontransferable embryos were significantly (P<0.0 1) higher in SMB group. Norgestomet (SMB) decreased the secretory pattern o f follicle stimulating hormone during the implant period. The FSH concentra tion, on the day of initiation of superovulatory treatment, during the supe rovulation and on the day of superoestrus was significantly (P<0.01) higher in PGF(2)alpha group than that in SMB group. In PGF(2)alpha group, the FSH levels registered an increasing trend between FSH injections. whereas, suc h trend was not observed in SMB group. After the superoestrus, FSH did not show any significant difference between the groups. Norgestomet brings earl y onset, shorter duration and lower peak concentration of FSH surge than PG F(2)alpha. In PGF(2)alpha group, the number of ovulations, embryo recovery and transferable embryos were significantly (P<0.01) positively correlated with FSH concentration on the day of initiation and during the superovulato ry treatment, and were nonsignificantly positively correlated with FSH conc entration on day 3 after super oestrus and on the day of embryo collection. Whereas in SMB group the number of ovulations, embryo recovery and transfe rable embryos were nonsignificantly positively correlated with FSH concentr ation in all the treatment days. In both the groups, the onset, duration an d the peak concentration of FSH surge possess significant (P<0.01) positive correlation with the number of ovulations and embryo recovery, but the rel ationship was stronger (P<0.01) in PGF(2)alpha group and weaker (P<0.01) in SMS group. The time interval between onset of superoestrus and FSH surge p ossess positive correlation with number of ovulations, embryo recovery and transferable embryos in both the groups, but the relationship was significa nt (P<0.0.01) only in PGF(2)alpha group.
