Abstract
Photochemical transformations of cycloalkyl nitrites isolated in argon matr ices have been studied. In the case of cyclohexyl, cycloheptyl and cyclooct yl nitrites complexes of HNO with the corresponding cycloalkyl ketones were formed. Photochemical irradiation of cyclobutyl nitrite resulted in the fo rmation of 4-nitrosobutanal as the major product. Under similar conditions irradiation of cyclopentyl nitrite gave a mixture of 5-nitrosocyclopentanal and the complex of cyclopentanone and HNO.
