Although Chilean psychological and psychosocial services oriented to p
oor populations have been increased in the last two decades, they are
still insufficient. Likewise the actions developed to evaluate this pr
ograms are scarce. Thus, we don't have in our country an adequate body
of knowledge in psychosocial health to guide the design acid evaluati
on of the strategies and actions to be implemented. In this contexts i
t seems relevant to know the mental health workers perceptions about t
he efectivity of his/her own actions and the obstacles and limitations
associated. Propositions about the ways to improve the programs offer
ed are also explored. This paper presents partial findings from a larg
er exploratory qualitative study about social representations of psych
ological needs in poor people.
