Solid-solid interfaces and their role in phase transformations

The macroscopic properties of interfaces are first examined. Attention is f ocused on coherent and partly coherent interfaces which produce a change of shape when displaced. The symmetry of interfaces is discussed with referen ce to Pond's classification of interface defects. Steps in interfaces with dislocation character are discussed as mechanisms of phase transformation.
