Ds. Bhargava et Pk. Pande, DECLINING AND CONSTANT RATE COUNTERCURRENT OPERATED HORIZONTAL FILTERS, INDIAN JOURNAL OF ENGINEERING AND MATERIALS SCIENCES, 4(3), 1997, pp. 81-91
A laboratory study on horizontal counter-current operated filters unde
r constant and declining filtration rate conditions has been conducted
. This study reveals that such filters can successfully (without signi
ficant deterioration in the effluent quality) take up higher turbidity
inputs, increased filtration rates and provide longer filter run time
s due to nearly uniform deposition of impurities along the entire filt
er depth. An empirical relation involving the several operative variab
les in respect of the counter-current operated filters has also been p
roposed. The proposed empirical relation is of ample use in the design
of the filter operative variables and to the field engineers.
